Adams Rite continuous hinge products FM300, 344 and 3500 have achieved CE marking. The standard enables us to differentiate ourselves from the competition as we believe we are the first manufacturer in Europe to achieve the CE mark on a continuous hinge.
    
CE marking is particularly relevant to Standard BS EN 1935 – Single Axis Hinges. The standard covers all hinges, whether they are lift off or fixed pin type, the essential requirement is to allow self closing when used on fire doors fitted with a door closing device. This standard is not mandatory unless used on a fire door, where the product must meet statutory requirements.
    
Compared to butt hinges, which are used on the majority of doors, continuous hinges are flush mounted, spread the door load and are more architectural pleasing. They also have security benefits such as a larger number of fixings and closer gaps which deters hinge prying. Closer gaps have the added safety benefit of preventing fingers from being trapped. The products feature hospital tips (anti ligature).
    
Adams Rite continuous hinges have an expected life cycle of 25 years, with maintenance, supported by in-house testing to 1,000,000 cycles.
    
Adams Rite will now be marketing a continuous hinge and intumescent seal package for ease of installation on fire doors.
