Preventing unnecessary landfill and incineration
From October end 2007, if you manage a site that produces waste, you will have to review how it is treated. Why? New legislation requires you to ensure that waste is treated before it goes to landfill. All liquid wastes are banned from landfill. If you are not sure what to do now, contact your waste management company for clarification or the Environment Agency.
Scientific reports show that man is mostly to blame for climate change. No wonder then that public and private sectors are taking their moral duty to the environment seriously. Remember that landfill taxes are rising at a staggering rate to encourage recycling. The Government stipulates that the public sector leads the way with sustainable practices like reducing waste and recycling. Alongside recycling options, consider:
- An Initial audit – review of the current situation
- Scheme – a recycling scheme that sets realistic goals
- Legislation – ensuring that you are aware of legal duties and forthcoming legislation on waste issues. London Recycling Ltd is member of the BSIA providing Information destruction to BS 8470: 2006
- Reports – helping you benchmark your environmental performance with data
- Structured communication in various formats for total understanding – staff on all levels need to understand that you are setting goals for long term success. They can learn from this and with an enthusiastic approach take the message home.
Experience shows that these crucial support mechanisms, coupled with a strong scheme prove effective in beating waste stream contamination, unnecessary landfill and incineration. London Recycling Limited service London areas only to reduce waste miles and have been established since 1986.
