Waste bins proven to reduce bacteria in hospital environment
Environmental Hygiene Products Ltd, one of the largest clinical waste bin manufacturers in the UK, will be showcasing their largest-ever product range at the HEFMA Conference 2008. They will also be promoting results from a recent pilot trial at the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust, where their bins showed an 83 per cent reduction in surface bacteria compared to untreated products. The trial highlights the benefit of using Environmental Hygiene’s bins to help reduce bacteria levels in real-life healthcare settings. The bacteria reduction was due to the use of BioCote® antimicrobial protection. BioCote Ltd will be at EHP’s stand to explain how the incorporation of silver ion technology into the powder coating of the bins provides a constant built-in protection against bacteria, mould and fungi. The collection of commercial waste, in particular clinical waste, increases the risk of cross-contamination on waste bins. All Environmental Hygiene’s bins are foot-pedal operated, reducing the risk of cross-contamination, however the use of BioCote® also inhibits the growth of a wide range of bacteria on their surfaces, including MRSA. Environmental Hygiene’s bins range from 20 to 90 litres and are available in the free-standing, solid body, removable body and the popular front-opening designs. The latter three designs are fire retardant and a silent closing device is offered as an optional extra.
