Atkins is a global design consultancy; the largest of its kind in the UK. Within Atkins, Design & Engineering Solutions offers a full spectrum of design consultancy services to the healthcare sector. During the past five years we have provided these services to more than 50 projects, with a combined capital value greater than £500m.
    
Sustainability is central to our thinking and culture. We provide best in class in the delivery of the built healthcare environment, matching innovations in health service delivery, legislation /guidance in environmental sustainability and energy management. Sustainability is integral in the development of Atkins solutions and we regularly achieve “excellent“ NEAT and BREEAM ratings.
    
Atkins advises the Carbon Trust on energy efficient design and the Waste and Resources Action Programme on construction industry recycling. Furthermore, we undertake joint research with the British University in Dubai on the development of sustainable building solutions. One example which demonstrates that sustainable innovation and research is fundamental to our design ethos is the Bahrain World Trade Centre, which features the world’s first integral wind turbines.
    
Atkins also encourages sustainability within its organisation, promoting “bike4work” schemes, car sharing and video conferencing.
