Mixed sex accommodation in NHS hospital trusts has fallen by 94 per cent in one year since December 2010 it has been announced by the Health Secretary.
Lansley said, “Nobody should have to suffer the indignity of staying in mixed accommodation and this is why I pledged to tackle this issue so that if patients go in for treatment, they will be cared for with compassion, dignity and privacy. Thanks to our tough action, the figures released confirm that we are delivering on that promise.”
Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust have announced all patients stayed in single sex accommodation since the Operating Framework for the NHS was implemented in late 2010.
Nancy Barber, deputy director of nursing said: “Patients need to know that if they are admitted into hospital they will not be sharing sleeping or bathroom facilities with people of the opposite sex. I’d like to congratulate our staff for doing such a great job in ensuring that no-one stays in same sex accommodation when they come to our hospitals.”
