The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has appointed Dyfed Alsop as its new chief operating officer and deputy CEO.

He will take up the position on 1 May 2026, and has already begun working with UKHSA and attending meetings.

Alsop previously served as chief executive at the Welsh Revenue Authority from 2017.

In his new role, he will work alongside UKHSA Chief Executive Jenny Harries and the Executive Committee over the coming months to ensure continuity of leadership and operations ahead of Jenny Harries’ departure in early summer. He will then cover the CEO role until a replacement is appointed.

Dyfed Alsop said: "I’m delighted to be joining UKHSA at such an interesting time in the organisation’s development. I’m looking forward to getting out and about to meet people and learn more about the important work that UKHSA does.

"I’m passionate about public service and the potential we have collectively to make a difference. I can’t wait to get started."

UKHSA chief executive Jenny Harries said: "I am absolutely delighted to welcome Dyfed to our organisation as Chief Operating Officer and Deputy CEO. His extensive experience in public and private sectors, combined with his strong track record in delivering transformation and managing complex operations, makes him ideally suited for this role.  Dyfed’s appointment strengthens our Executive Committee team and his expertise and leadership style will be invaluable as we continue to develop our people, embed a new culture and grow our organisation."
