The prime minister has announced new cabinet and department appointments after deputy PM and housing minister Angela Rayner resigned last week. The resignation came after it was revealed she didn't pay enough tax on a flat in Hove.

Dr Zubir Ahmed MP has been appointed Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department of Health and Social Care. He was elected MP for Glasgow South West in July 2024.

Liz Kendall will now become secretary of state for science, innovation and technology after Peter Kyle was appointed secretary of state for business and trade and president of the Board of Trade.

Elected as the MP for Leicester West in May 2010, Kendall previously served as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions between 5 July 2024 and 5 September 2025.

In her new position, Kendall will have overall responsibility for the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology.

Lord Vallance remains Minister of State for Science, Research and Innovation.
